645, My New Favorite!

365_blog_091

The more I shoot film (specifically with my Contax) the more I fall in love with it’s aspect ratio 6×4.5 commonly known as 645. For portraits it is just the perfect height not too tall not too wide and in landscape mode it is not so “cinematic” in nature more intimate but still with room to breathe. Now don’t get me wrong, I still love shooting with other cameras (like my Pentax 6×7 or my Hasselblad 500) but for me the  look of the 645 aspect ratio is just so much more interesting. It’s what we see in magazines, books, and is the preferred format of most high end editorial photographers. If you ever get the chance, I highly encourage you to shoot with different cameras (large format, 6×6, 6×7, 35mm, and of course 6×4.5) anything that will help you to “see” differently, because when you do it will change the way you shoot for the better.

Cannoli, an Italian Tradition

365_blog_038

Chocolate crusted, ricotta filled, and all wrapped up in a fried sugary shell it makes for one of Kristy’s favorite deserts. In fact when we eat out and it’s on the menu you can bet that that we’ll be having it, we’ll never miss the opportunity for this delicacy. Perhaps one of the reasons that we love our cannoli is because of the ones we shared while on our honeymoon in Italy, though surprisingly difficult to find, the ones we did were excellent. It is perhaps a little thing that we took back with us, the love of this imported desert, but often times I find that the small thing that may mean the most. Like the perfume Kristy wore every day on our honeymoon that transports me back to that same place each time she puts it on. Or the love of Chianti after drinking what seemed like a glass at every single meal with great food and amazing company. So, every once in a while I’ll stop by our local desert shop and procure one for her to remind her of Italy, or our honeymoon, or just to say I love you.

Stuff We Love | VCU Basketball

Most of you who know me know that I don’t usually follow sports, but when my school is doing well I always pay attention. It was great to see them play last night in against Florida, it was such a close game that I couldn’t stop nervously rubbing my hands together and hoping that my school would advance again. I couldn’t help but be swept up in the jubilation of the event, the energy that was in the sports bar was amazing! Yet through the nerves, hot wings, and beer we saw VCU advance the the Elite Eight! I can’t wait for the next game, Go Rams!
