Book Review: The Thank You Economy

I recently purchased the audio book “The Thank You Economy” after hearing Justin & Mary speak about it in their program at WPPI and though this book is narrated by what sounds to be a well caffeinated author it was had a lot of great information about how to use social media for your business and how traditional advertisement is slowly declining and why. Gary, the author, also spoke a lot about how we are moving away from the faceless corporation mindset and more towards local small business again (what he called the humanization of business) and how more than ever before we need to make customer service and the customer experience a top priority (something your grandparents knew all too well) because unlike the 80′s clients today have a voice and with the invention of social media they are louder than ever before. Gary even speaks about the eventual demise of the use of Facebook and social media as a tool for advertisement by businesses, something which I think we are already beginning to see. There is a lot to take away from this and there are things that you can instantly implement into your business. If you haven’t read this book I highly recommend it. It will definitely make you think a little differently about your business, your approach to clients, and advertisement! The Thank You Economy

If you guys have any other business books that you have read and loved don’t hesitate to let me know about them, put their titles in the comments below!

Blacksburg VA Wedding Photographers | Virginia Tech | Sara & Jim’s Married!!!

Shooting an all outdoor wedding in July can be a bit warm sometimes, luckily in Blacksburg temperatures are about 10 degrees cooler than in Richmond which made for a pretty nice day! Sara & Jim had such a beautiful ceremony and reception and was filled with such good people that it made their wedding a delight to photograph! Here are a few of my favorites photos as well as a bit about their wedding in their own words!

WHERE IS YOUR WEDDING/RECEPTIONS AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS LOCATION?
We decided to get married at Virginia Tech where we met and fell in love. The ceremony site at War Memorial Chapel is especially significant to us, because Jim snuck us in there on our second date to play the piano for me.

WHAT WAS YOUR THEME OR STYLE AND WHY?
In getting married at Virginia Tech, we chose to have a summer evening wedding with garden parasols, lemonade, and candlelight.

WHERE DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR DRESS AND WHAT LEAD YOU TO THE ONE YOU CHOSE?
I flew from Los Angeles to D.C. for the Filene’s Basement Running of the Brides, which was a great experience. I had an amazing team of family and friends, many of whom traveled far for this event, to help me find my dress. We wore matching team shirts in ‘bell yellow’ made by my future sister-in-law. I eventually found my dream dress in the frenzy that is Running of the Brides; a true white ball gown.

WHERE THERE ANY OTHER PIECES OF JEWELRY/ACCESSORIES FOR YOU, YOUR GROOM, BRIDESMAIDS OR GROOMSMEN THAT YOU DECIDED TO INCORPORATE?
Our wedding bands are from Hawaii, where my mother’s family is from, and we have each other’s name in Hawaiian on our rings. Both my parents and my brother and his wife have similar wedding bands, and we are honoring this tradition. Our rings have the ‘maile lei’ design; consequently, our family will be performing the following hula dance for our reception “A Maile Lei for Your Hair”.

DID YOU HAVE ANY WEDDING FAVORS AND WHY DID YOU SELECT THEM?
Our wedding favors are bottles of lemonade with personal labels, which include our names, wedding date, and ‘ingredients for a happy marriage’.

WHAT DID YOU DO FOR FOOD & DRINK AND WHY?
We wanted to serve summery food consistent with our lemon / citrus theme; we will have, among other things, citrus-infused chicken with tequila-lime salsa, orange jasmine rice, and fresh lemonade.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO BE GO ON THE HONEYMOON & WHY?
We have always shared a love for travel and outdoor adventures, which is why we chose Kauai, the ‘Garden Island’ of Hawaii, to dive, surf, and swim with sea turtles.

What I love most is that we are best friends first. I was always drawn to him. He has this quiet strength, and one of the most fascinating minds that I have ever met. I love that we can be doing ‘nothing’ together and having the time of our lives.

I love the way she makes me feel when we spend time together. With her playful and sometimes devious sense of humor, she can always get me to smile. She’s just as stubborn as I am and always willing to go on an adventure. No matter the activity, I can never spend enough time with her. And from the first moment I saw her, I have always loved Sara’s radiant smile and beautiful long hair.
