It was an engagement session where we almost blew away! We arrived at Libby Hill around 6 to find that the wind was blowing so much it made it hard to keep your eyes open or when you did your eyes would water up so much that tears would start to blow across your face, like when you’re on a roller coaster and the tears go strait into your ears (always happens to me). Luckly as we walked around we noticed some spots shielded from the wind that we were able to use until it died down, and I’m so happy we did, because we found some beautiful spots! Here are some of my favorites from the day!

It was so great to see Kristen & Philip again, after shooting her sister’s wedding a couple years back, I always love it when I get to collect the set so I was so excited when Kristen called me to shoot her engagement photos! We settled on the location of an open field near my office and walked away with some beautiful photos, these are a few of my favorites from the day! It was so great to work with Matt & Katie, a couple who was into photos almost as much as I was! They had flown in for easter weekend so it seemed like a perfect time for engagement portraits, & the weather was overcast which made for some great shots! We had a blast walking all around Shockoe slip for the shoot and even stopped into the bar where they met for the first time (Sine´). They are such a good looking couple and such a joy to photograph. Here are a few of my favorites as well as their engagement in their own words!

The plan was for Katie to meet Matt at the Philadelphia Airport for a friend’s wedding… Matt had emailed Katie a Photoshop’d flight confirmation a week prior to make her think he was on the San Antonio to Philadelphia flight. Actually, he took an early flight into Richmond on Friday, September 30, 2011 and from there, Katie’s parents picked up Matt from the airport and stowed him away to the Richmond train station, where he crept past Katie and snuck onto the train ahead of her. After about 35 minutes, midway between Richmond and Washington, DC Matt marched through the train cars looking for her with a following of people to whom he filled in on the plan, armed with cameras and applause. Katie was fast asleep on the train, completely oblivious to what was going on, so Matt woke her up. Katie looked completely confused, repeatedly asking “How are you on this train right now??” Matt told her he would explain later, said some very heartfelt and moving words that neither of them really remember, and put a gorgeous ring on her finger after hearing a resounding “yes!” to the question – “Katie, will you marry me?” The whole train erupted in applause, and Matt and Katie found themselves hugging the entire Richmond-Philadelphia commuter population.
