These two are so great to work with, quick to laugh and enjoy themselves. When they suggested that we shoot in Williamsburg I wasn’t sure what we would get but now looking at all of the cool spots that we shot at I want to do many more engagements there! Here is Laura & Jonathan’s engagement story in their own words:
“Jon and Laura met as freshmen at the College of William & Mary. They were in the same freshman seminar. This class was unique in that it only met on Saturdays and took trips to historical sites surrounding Williamsburg. During the many hours spent in a bus traveling to and from these sites Jon got to thinking Laura was pretty cute. For her part, Laura thought Jon was one of those cool kids sitting at the back of the bus; she would soon be dissuaded from this notion.
It wasn’t until sophomore year that Jon asked Laura to attend the King and Queens Ball, the annual formal at William & Mary. He did this casually while in line at Sno2Go, a local ice cream shop. Against her better judgment she said yes and the two were soon dating. Despite some ups and downs along the way, their relationship flourished.
The Proposal
The problem was that Jon knew nothing about engagement rings. He wanted to select precisely the right one for Laura and, knowing that he was hopelessly lost, secured the assistance of his sister Elizabeth, his Mom, and his Aunt Vickie. This skilled team was able to muddle through the ring selection process right before Christmas 2009. Unfortunately, that is also the worst possible time to ship something. To make matters worse, the Millers were going out of town the day after Christmas. “No problem!” said the jeweler, “We’ll overnight it to you.” Alas, overnight takes on a curiously different meaning around Christmas, as it often means over more than one night. Luckily, Jon was able to track down the package and drive to a FedEx shipping facility near Dulles Airport to retrieve the ring personally prior to going out of town.
Unfortunately, this left Jon visiting family for a week while he stewed about how to propose. Jon figured, accurately, that he would be so nervous as to be wholly incapable of doing anything correctly. Thus he resolved to cook a simple dinner and then ask between dinner and dessert.
There was one last detail to consider: Jon wanted to ask Laura’s father for his blessing before proposing. The most appropriate way to do this is to call him while driving to the grocery store only hours prior to asking his daughter for her hand. It is even more appropriate if he almost hangs up on you believing you to be a telemarketer. Despite all of this, Mr. Wright graciously agreed to give his blessing and Jon went forth with his resolution substantially fortified. Jon went to Laura’s apartment and cooked a delicious dinner. He then went down on one knee between dinner and dessert. ”
